I registered when I was on 9th...but I don't really care to vote..As per the last election it makes no difference.
Ericka,Your vote is needed in this election! Just like your vote was needed in the last election. No matter WHO you decide to vote for, let your voice be heard.Keep pushing forward. If Rosa Parks would have given up her seat when they told her to move, we would have never heard from her. (lol) We want to hear from YOU! Stand up and be counted. Don't let one election stop you from voting in others. We Stand Tall, We Stand Proud, We Vote As A Family, we are family, I got all my sisters in me---oh sorry, got carried away. Anyway ericka, go to the damn polls and vote!
That's not true, if everyone thought like that, we would be back in the
20's with no rights to vote, do you realize how hard black people fought
to have the right to vote and the bs they had to go through to make your
future what it is?
Are you only voting for Obama because he's black?
Just a thought......if you did vote for Obama because he's black, is that such a bad thing? I mean-spanish vote for spanish because they are spanish. Whites vote for whites because they are white. Why is it such a crime to vote for a black person because you are black? I mean-thats the crabs in a barrel mentality that we have to get out of. Its ok to support one another. The more power we have, the more we can do for our communities and the more decisions we can make to benefit each other globally. I see nothing wrong with it. Do you know how many people wont vote for Obama just because he's black? Im sure a great deal. So please dont contribute to those numbers.
I understand what you mean and it's ok to forgive but i don't think you should forget. It wasn't that long ago. I remember Mama used to tell me stories about how she couldn't go in restaraunts b/c she was black. If she was allowed in, she couldn't sit in the same section as the whites or use the ladies room. Growing up hearing these stories made a huge impact on how I view my race and our struggles. You don't have to vote for Obama b/c he's black. Hell - you don't have to vote for Obama. You can vote for McCain. Whomever your pick, just make sure you VOTE. Your opinion does matter and your choice will make a difference. Keep in mind - if you don't vote - don't complain. Don't complain about how much money your job takes out of your check for health insurance. Don't complain about high taxes and how when you get your pay check Uncle Sam takes all your money before you get it. Don't complain about all the illegal immigrants taking all our jobs, etc. Your vote can help change these issues or at least swing the decision making a little.
I don't vote, & I don't care to vote. I'm not too interested in politics. That's bad, especially me being a Libra right? But if I'm not interested, explaining to me reasons why you are (interested) doesn't influence me. I mean I have nothing against Obama in any way shape or form. I'm just not interested in politics. Granted the amount of taxes taken out of a paycheck are... disgusting. However the tax deductions (I believe) aren't going to drastically change when the new President is elected. Taxes pay their bills, support the war, government assistant programs, & all that other good/bad ish. Right? I could be wrong, 'cause like I said, I don't really keep up with it. To me it's just.. whatever. I mean more power to those who vote. I'm happy for you... I am... ok.. no, I'm not. I really could careless.

I feel you E*
You gotta forgive me for quoting Spiderman on this, but it fits.
With great power comes great responsibility.
Lately theres been so much pressure, especially on the younger crowd, to run to the polls and vote. I feel that there needs to be less pressure and more encouragement to be involved in politics. You got all kinds of campaigns geared towards younger people, on MTV, HOT97 etc tellin these kids to go vote, but nobody's putting any emphasis on the importance of educating yourself beforehand. The importance of doing your homework, researching the candidates and their policies. Their experience, their track records, where they stand on issues that are important to you. These are all things of which you cant get an acurate representation from those "My name is so and so and I approve this message" ads, which is the extent of alot of todays youngsters exposure to modern politics.
Theres a difference between making a decision, and making a wise decision.
Something we should think about before shoving kids into a voting booth and telling them to pull the lever.
With great power comes great responsibility.
And I'm ridin with you on this one...
" I wouldn't base my vote on race, which I know people aregoing to do. Other races do support one another but it doesn't make itjust. "
The wrong black man in office can run the country into shit just as bad as the wrong white man can (did).
As of right now, I'm with you. I'm not gonna risk voting for the wrong person. I have from now till November to acquire the knowledge necessary to make a good decision. If I cant manage that, I'm sitting this one out.

Point taken and it's a good one. Education is key and educating yourself is better. It's up to us as individuals to listen, research and decide who we would like to vote for. I personally am not telling anyone, including my daughter Ericka, who to vote for. I'm just saying you should exercise your right to vote if you agree with a candidates views. On the flip side (cause you know there is always a flip side), alot of the candidates promise this and promise that! As soon as they get in office, the promise turns into an advance stage of Alzheimers. That politics! No one should be forced to vote and I don't encourage anyone to vote if they don't agree with any of the candidates. Just like it's your right to choose who you vote for, you have that same right NOT to vote at all!
Ms Dicks, in a sense I agree with your position as well.
My response wasn't meant to challenge your stance, it was more meant to identify with Ericka's decision not to make a blind vote. I fed mostly off of her last paragraph where she voiced her lack of interest in politics in general.
The difference is you know Ericka well. And I must say that its very admirable of you to have raised such an intelligent daughter, intelligent enough where you can be as confident as you are that she'll make a good decision. I did notice that you left the decision entirely up to her, instead of pressuring her to vote for your personal choice of candidate. That was very fair of you.
Its just as wonderful that you and your other family members are as politically involved as you are and are spreading awareness of the importance and potential impact that your involvement holds.
Not only do I applaud your efforts, I applaud your true agenda as well; to encourage an educated vote.
With all due respect

wtcf- no problem at the spiderman quote! i love quotes. i guess the both of us have some research to do..i just lack the energy.
ma- why did i get jumped in the email chat? VOTE VOTE VOTE! ROSA! BLACK PPL! MOMMA SAID! im like GEESH!
WhoTheCapFit,
I respect your position and I "thank you" for your compliment. You too, write and express yourself with much intelligence, clarity and conviction. My hat is oof to you!
Brownie,
If you felt jumped on, accept my apology from the group who participated in the discussion. That, you know, was not my intent. You expressed, (my interpretation) that you were not voting only because of the unfairness in the last presidential election. My other comments were my weird sense of humor.
:o @ BROWNIE!!!!!!!!!
Aww, thats so cute!!;)

Hey anonymous -
I also agree with your personal view in regards to not making an educated vote. I concur that most young people are pushed towards the polls without anyone trying to educate them at all. To be honest, I never even thought of it that way. GREAT POINT! Here is where we differ - Most young adults dont want to be educated on politics. Or, if they do, don't make an effort to do the research or even ask a question or two. I watched BET last week. Not for videos or reality tv shows, but because I was flipping through the channels and came across "The Truth" with host Jeff Johnson. He had an entire segment on politics. The entire panel was black. Some were Repubs and the others Dems. I sat and watched the entire show. It's funny b/c they do everything possible to attract the younger crowd. They even hd a comedian (Ashy Larry) on the panel and hip hop music every now and them. I think this was there way of trying to educate the younger adults. I push all people to vote. I try and educate them on politics (the little that I know). However, they aren't interested! You can push a person to vote but it's up to the individual to gather the information necessary to make their best educated vote.
Anonymous - from now on I'm going to make a conscious effort to educate as well as push people to vote.
Missy - whaddup!
Ericka - I guess it did seem like we were "jumping" you but it really wasn't meant that way. I think we all just shared the same passionate views about the election. Apologies if you felt disrespected in any way.

Coco
Well Ms Coco, I must commend you as well.
Your interest in politics and enthusiasm for spreading the word has brought a more powerful message across than you may think. Had it not been for you and Ms Dicks conversing with Ericka, its a very good possibility that neither she nor I would be as involved as we both now are in educating ourselves and preparing to make an informed decision about this monumental election. We may very well have let this historic event pass us by without a second thought. Which I'm sure is something that I would have deeply regretted while telling my children the story of America's first black presidential candidate (or president) and female running mate. We've both made great progress and have and will continue to share our findings on this quest to discover who our candidates really are, and whether or not they deserve our votes. I look forward to being well-versed enough on the subject to hopefully partake in future discussions with you guys.
So for this I thank you.
And thank you E* for posting it.
Shoot, thank you for bloggin period! Congrats on that award and again on your hundredth post.
Keep it up! I'm ridin wit'cha!
